How many Different Types of Tummy Tuck are there?
In this article we will be discussing four main types of tummy tucks.
What Does a Tummy Tuck Procedure Do?
The goal of the tummy tuck is to remove the excess skin and fat over the abdomen while also tightening the abdominal muscles. Tummy tuck can be undergone for multiple reasons like post pregnancy, people who have experienced massive weight loss surgery, diet, or exercise. In these situations a lot of loose skin can develop over the stomach, flanks and back resulting in a lot of discomfort and difficulty in exercising, the patient is often very self-conscious about what they can and can’t wear. They find it difficult to exercise and to wear what they want. When the excess skin is removed the patient feels a lot better about themselves physically and psychologically.
What are Different Types of Tummy Tuck?
1. A Full Tummy Tuck:
A Full tummy tuck or Standard tummy tuck is the most performed procedure. With this procedure an incision is made around the belly button and another incision made across the lower abdomen from hip to hip below the bikini line along with the liposuction of the abdomen, the excess skin is removed from the lower abdomen the abdominal muscles are tightened and the incision closed. Often the belly button will need to be repositioned as well.
2. A Mini Tummy Tuck:
A Mini tummy tuck also has incision in a lower abdomen, but the scar is much shorter than a full tummy tuck incision. The main difference of the mini tummy tuck versus the full tummy tuck is that it focuses mainly on removing the skin from the lower abdomen and not from the upper abdomen above the belly button,so the belly button is not repositioned. A mini tummy tuck is relatively rarely done
3. An Extended Tummy Tuck:
Plastic surgeons often do an extended tummy tuck when the excess Skin is also present in the flanks of the patients. It is usually after a case of bariatric surgery, multiple pregnancies. The extended tummy tuck follows the same procedure as a full tummy tuck but the lower incision is longer on either side reaching the back. As in the full tummy tuck the abdominal muscles are tightened and naval reposition and the incision is closed. This is usually done in patients mainly who have undergone bariatric surgery and have a lot of loose skin on the sides.
4. A Body lift:
A body lift is required in the patient who has undergone bariatric surgery and has undergone a lot of weight loss resulting in excess skin in the back as well. So, the incision is basically extended circumferentially around the lower apart of the abdomen. This is mainly done in patients who have lost a lot of weight and have lot of hanging skin circumferentially
