What are Prominent Ears?

Prominent ear are ears that stick out more than 2cm from the head. They are usually caused by a lack of cartilage fold in the ear. In most cases prominent ears starts to develop in early childhood.

Prominent ears is one of the few surgeries where you do not have to wait till 18 years of the age to do surgery as it causes a lot of psychosocial disability in the person with prominent ears, being ridiculed at school and  in a social environment because of which the surgery is done after 12years of age. 

When did you treat the Prominent Ears?

Prominent ears can be treated after 12 years of the age once complete development of the ear happens.

How can you treat the Prominent Ears?

Prominent ear are treated by a surgery called ear pinning where the ear is placed back from 2cm mark to 1cm, a little bit of folding is still present because you want it to look natural and not completely bent back. There are different techniques that we do depending on the type and amount of type of cartilage involved in procedure. By using advanced otoplasty techniques, our team of board certified plastic surgeons can change the shape of the ear cartilage and bring your ears closer to your head. During the surgery incision is placed on the back of the ear which is inconspicuous, if necessary the surgeon removes small pieces of cartilage. Stitches are placed on the back of the ear which is never visible.

How long does it take to Recovery from the Surgery?

There will be a bandage around the ears for 1 week after which we will give you an ointment to apply on the scar to heal the wound. You will be completely recovered in 4weeks. 

Swelling will go down in 2-3 weeks you will be sore for a few days .it will take 6weeks to get back to the gym and 12 weeks to participate in contact sports but it is essential to speak to your surgeon beforehand to get an all clear 

Prominent or bat ears does not resolve on its own. Surgery is the only way of correcting it
