Eyelid Surgery

What is Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)?

An eyelid surgery – also known as a blepharoplasty – is a procedure used to rejuvenate the appearance of the upper and lower eyelids. Age and genetics  cause drooping, sagging, and excess folds around the eyes. This can contribute to both cosmetic and visual complications, including a tired and aged appearance, as well as difficulty seeing. As a result of surgery, under eye bags are removed reducing puffiness taking years off the eyes.

Am I a candidate for an eyelid surgery?

You may be a candidate for eyelid surgery if you are a non-smoking adult in good health. The appearance of a drooping upper lid may also be due to relaxation of the forehead skin and eyebrow. A drooping eyelid is sometimes caused by stretching of one of the upper eyelid muscles, the levator muscle. A consultation with Dr. Shetty can help you determine if you are fit to undergo a blepharoplasty procedure.

What should I expect during my blepharoplasty procedure?

This procedure will be performed under  general anesthesia in the operating room. Dr. Shetty will carefully form an incision discreetly along the natural crease of the eyelid or along the lower lash line. An incision can also be made inside the eyelid on the conjunctiva to eliminate any scar.It is via those incisions that excess skin can be removed, the muscles tightened, and fat deposits redistributed.

What post-operative instructions will I need to follow after my eyelid surgery?

An overnight stay may be required. The post operative swelling will subside over a period of 1 week. The sutures will be removed at 1 week. Ice packs will be applied to reduce swelling. The result will be seen over a period of 1 month.
